The president and vice president of the College Democrats of America, after getting input from thousands of students, announced that they are backing Barack Obama (D), the Illinois senator’s presidential campaign said Wednesday.

“College students want change — and Sen. Obama offers an opportunity for all of us to move forward in this country to talk about the issues that matter,” said Lauren Wolfe, the group’s president. “Young people are the ones paying the price for George Bush’s failed leadership. Sen. Obama offers us a new beginning and wants to make our voices heard in our government.”

Wolfe and Awais Khaleel, the vice president of College Democrats of America, also serve as superdelegates.

“The College Democrats represent the future and their work is critical to a Democratic victory in November,” Obama said. “They have worked hard to organize at the grass roots, energize their college campuses and mobilize students for change. During this primary, young people have proven to be an incredibly powerful force at the polls and I am grateful for their support.”
